At Evolution Through Movement we work with the organization of the brain, the development of the mind/body connection and the learning process. The work we do with our clients is based in movement but it directly impacts and draws upon the plasticity of the brain. The results are stunning!

Our work is founded on the scientific fact that the human brain has the capacity, throughout life, to form new patterns of movement, feeling, thought, and action with great speed and efficiency.

Our method of communication with the brain is movement and the use of our bodies. Our nervous system is concerned mainly with movement. It stands to reason then that to improve our ability to think, our ability to perform, our ability to stay cool under duress and our ability to achieve our most excellent performance in any undertaking requires that we begin with movement.

 
The Objectives

You are a brilliant, accomplished person, but, through the process of life, natural movements become inhibited and it is natural that you will begin to ignore and even forget how to move and think freely.  Most people learn to move their head, shoulders, arms and legs irrespective of other parts of the body such as the pelvis. Consequently, they develop neck and shoulder pain and lose mobility because movement is often done in just one small portion of the spine or the body. 

By experiencing our work at Evolution Through Movement, you can continue the movement based developmental process that started in infancy but halted (for various reasons) in adolescence. You will break patterns of habitual moving, thinking, sensing, and emoting. You will find that your body and your mind both function more efficiently and effectively.

Due to its basis in the breakthrough discovery that poorly organized movement, limiting beliefs, and the lack of continued child-like learning are the most common causes of aging and deterioration, Evolution Through Movement also provides anti-aging solutions, aides in supporting and sustaining weight loss, and facilitates lifetime fitness and mental alertness.

Physical Evolutions

Physical performance is more than strength, precision or flexibility. Neurophysiologists have shown that the image of the motion, the way the performer’s brain stores the motion, has a tremendous impact on how that motion will actually be performed.

The inability to move or restrictions in movement are often perceived as a structural issue over which we have no voluntary control. Attempts to remedy this usually include stretching or other forms of bodywork to release muscles or manipulate joints. These therapies do not address the fact that the tightness or stiffness is a consequence of an inaccurate image in the brain of how these movements could be performed.

Because this method works by using motion to “reprogram” the brain, we actually modify the image of movement. New movement options are introduced and our clients then integrate those into their daily repertoire of movement. The focus is always on function.  It builds off of what you can already do well and let’s you experience continual improvement. Being continually successful feeds the learning process.

Damage or disruption to the nervous system, however slight, can create an inability to move as effectively or as freely as before. Following even a minor injury such as a sprained ankle, there may be some limitation in movement. With repeated attempts, this inability to move becomes habitual, and the brain learns to believe that the body can’t move in certain ways.  By reengaging the mind’s awareness of the body, we can break these limiting patterns and enable the body to work at its fullest potential.

You will relearn what it’s like to move like a child. Your movements become easier and require less effort. You will become less prone to imbalance or falling. Most of all, you will experience less pain and be able to participate more fully in life.

Mental and Emotional Evolutions

Your brain has the capacity to upgrade itself. It is a self-organizing system. But much of the stimuli we receive in life actually stunts this innate ability rather than encouraging it. We store the stress that we experience mentally and emotionally in our bodies, often resulting in physical dysfunction and limitations.

Freeing the body from these restrictions requires reaching the mind, and the methods we employ at Evolution Through Movement reach the brain through movement of the body. Therefore, as the brain learns new physical patterns and possibilities it learns new mental and emotional patterns and possibilities as well.

You will experience improved ability to handle stressful situations without the debilitating effects that stress often causes. Lingering affects of emotional trauma will be mitigated. We often see improved mental acuity and memory function as well.

No improvement is complete or sustainable unless both the brain and the body are impacted. The work that we do is rooted in movement, but it involves learning and a “reprogramming” of both the brain and the body, resulting in the improved function of both.
